Flexibility Upgrade of Welding Production Lines for OEMs
桥田
Application Background
A new energy commercial vehicle manufacturer is advancing flexible upgrading of its welding production line at its Shandong base. The workshop involves multiple operating conditions, including gripper-to-gripper changes, steel spot welding gun-to-gun changes, spot welding gun-to-gripper changes, and spot welding gun-to-FDS changes. The project needs to support flexible switching across multiple vehicle models and tools, enabling fast, stable, and reliable conversion between grippers and steel welding guns, thereby reducing redundant robot and workstation configurations, and improving welding line flexibility, equipment utilization, and on-site maintenance efficiency. The project adopts the QT-650 robot tool changer, covering four types of operating conditions with a single platform.
Sore Point
桥田
1. Multiple vehicle models on a shared line with insufficient flexibility from fixed tools: Handling grippers and spot welding guns both need frequent switching to adapt to different vehicle models, and the traditional one-machine-one-tool configuration increases redundant investment in robots and production lines. 2. Complex spot welding interfaces with high requirements for stable connections: High-power electrical, signal, pneumatic, and safety circuits coexist, placing strict demands on interference resistance, contact reliability, and safety logic on site. 3. Tight production cycles requiring rapid signal connection after switching: After tool switching, if the required media such as air, electricity, and fluid cannot be connected quickly, it will directly affect the welding line cycle time and equipment utilization. 4. Fast vehicle model iteration requiring a replicable and maintainable solution: As new energy commercial vehicle products continue to expand, newly added tools, workstations, or lines need to quickly reuse a unified platform.

How To Solve
桥田
Qiaotian provides the QT-650 robot tool changer and supporting solution: a unified robot-side interface connects multiple handling grippers and spot welding guns, enabling synchronous changeover of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, communication, and safety circuits. The tool changer body adopts a QT-650 robot-side + tool-side configuration, adapting to the vast majority of tool loads in welding workshops. For communication and control, combinations such as the C39 communication module and F25-7 control module support stable transmission of signals and control circuits, reducing human error, signal reconnection wait times, and line downtime risks. High-power electrical and servo modules are optionally configured according to welding gun requirements, meeting the media connection needs of spot welding guns while accommodating future welding process and vehicle model upgrades. Pneumatic and parking modules make on-site tool parking, re-pickup, and repeated docking more stable, reducing maintenance frequency and time. In terms of safety design, the system maintains locking even during air or power loss, achieving up to PLd/Cat.3 safety level, meeting the automaker's welding line requirements for safety circuits, continuous production, and equipment reliability. The solution uses a standardized body to support a multi-tool platform, with optional modules adapting to different energy interfaces. On-site service ensures efficient implementation, helping the customer upgrade from "tool switching" to "flexible manufacturing capability" and reserving space for future vehicle model introduction and production line replication.
